OAKLEIGH CANNONS FC TRIAL PROCESS – U13 / U14 / U15 / U16

DAY 1

Admin desk receives all EOI applications via email. Upon receiving the email, admin desk replies with confirmation of receipt of email. Then admin desk transcribes all details onto a spreadsheet ready for trials. Admin desk welcomes everyone as they enter the Pavillion. All players / parents check their personal details are all correct at Admin desk. Every player is given a bib - 4 different colours and numbered, randomly selected, recorded against each name.

A team of our existing coaches are appointed to mark players on Day 1 – using a clipboard with a marking form and a pen (supplied by Admin desk).

On Day 1, the Head Coach of the team must select his top 15 players. Other coaches assisting provide the head coach with their view, however the Head Coach can supersede any selections as Day 1 of trials belongs to the Head Coach.

Part 1

They get to play a small sided “keeping off” game 5v5 / 6v6; SS games, players rotated

Part 2

They get to play a full sided game 11v11 (mixed). Game selection (mixed). No selection on ability or position has been made at this stage – we just want to have a look at the child’s small sided and long sided ability.

You will notice people with clipboards watching and marking at each corner of the ground.

Our aim on Day 1 is to pick a team of 15 who will wear the green bib on day 2. This green team is referred to as the ‘go’ team. It means your child has one foot in the door but not fully there just yet.

At the end of the night, player cuts are done and emails are sent to notify the “unsuccessful” candidates.

If you do not get / receive an email from the club at the end of Day 1, that means you come back on Day 2.

A list of the top 15 players selected will be given to the admin desk, as they must be given a green bib on Day 2.

DAY 2

A full sided game is played 11v11

The green bib team vs the other coloured bib teams.

Round Robin games begin. Green vs Red, Green vs Blue, Blue vs Orange

Players from the green team have to try their best and play well enough not to lose their green bib.

Competition is intense. The green team must win both matches and be dominant.

The Coach may ask a player from the green team to swap with a coloured bib player.

The focus on day 2 and 3 is to finf the next 3-5 players to make up the 18-20 man squad

By design the green team will be stronger. It should be visible and noticeable.

Players from the coloured bibs must give everything they have and try their very best to earn a green bib.

At the end of the night, player cuts are done and emails are sent to notify the “unsuccessful” candidates.

If you do not get / receive an email from the club at the end of Day 2, that means you come back on Day 3.

DAY 3

A full sided games played 11v11

The green bib team v the Orange team. This is the last chance for all players to shine and be seen.

On this day the focus is on the orange team, as 3 to 5 players will be selected from the orange team to make the squad of 18/19/20 players. If a player in the orange team plays well against the green team then this player is worthy of squad selection.

The final squad is selected.

At the end of the night, player cuts are done and emails are sent to notify the “unsuccessful” candidates.

A “Letter of Offer” is sent to all “Successful” candidates. You have 24 hours to accept our offer. If a player does not accept the offer, the their position is given to the next person in line of selection.
